TUG OF WAR

YEAR GROUP: 2

TASK: Literature response to ‘The Watcher’ considering the issue of nature conservation

THINKING ROUTINE: Tug of War - Something positive about the story Vs Something negative about the story

COMMENT ON EVIDENCE OF THINKING:In this more simplified approach I saw much more of the thinking come out. I wasn’t sure that leaving it so open would show me the depth of where the girls were at on the topic. Each girl got a positive and negative post it note and had to write their thought down, and post it on our line on the board. As a class we grouped the ideas and looked for ones that stood out - a couple of interesting ones stood out. One negative being that Jane wasn’t able to go to the jungle when she was younger, because maybe she could have done more. I loved that big idea, it really stood out amongst the others which were mainly to do with cutting down the forest, which were also valid.

APPROPRIATENESS FOR YEAR GROUP:In this simplified manner, with individual contributions this activity worked well.
